Invite people
The Portal invites panel is how you provision the people who run an Organization: teachers, teaching assistants, observers, mentors, and fellow administrators. Issuing an invite emails the person a link and, at the same moment, applies their role — so when they accept and set a password, they arrive already able to do their job.
Because identity in emergent is durable, an invite provisions a Person: a lasting identity the role is granted to, independent of the account they eventually sign in with.
The roles you can invite
Section titled “The roles you can invite”The Invite role you choose decides what the person can do:
- Teacher — runs an Offering: builds its content and follows learner progress.
- Teaching assistant — supports a teacher within an Offering.
- Observer — has visibility into an Offering without teaching in it.
- Mentor — a supporting role attached to an Offering.
- Organization admin — administers the Organization itself, including inviting others.
- Platform admin — has platform-wide authority (available only when you are a platform administrator).
Choose the scope of the invite
Section titled “Choose the scope of the invite”Teacher, teaching assistant, observer, and mentor roles can be granted at one of two scopes, chosen with the Access scope control:
- Organization-scoped — the role applies across the selected Organization.
- Offering-scoped — the role applies to a single Offering only. The invite confirms the person has offering-limited access.
Organization admin invites are always Organization-scoped; platform admin invites are always platform-wide.
Send an invite
Section titled “Send an invite”-
In the Portal invites panel, enter the person’s Email (required). Add a Display name if you have one — it is optional.
-
Choose the Invite role.
-
If the role supports it, set the Access scope to Organization-scoped or Offering-scoped.
-
Confirm the Organization. If you selected an active Organization it is already chosen; as a platform administrator you can also paste an Organization’s identifier directly.
-
For an Offering-scoped invite, choose the Offering (or, as a platform administrator, paste an Offering’s identifier).
-
Check the Resolved invite scope — a read-only summary of exactly where the role will apply — then choose Send invite.
You know it worked when the panel confirms “<email> has been invited as <role>”, with “with offering-limited access” added for an Offering-scoped invite. The email and any Offering and scope fields clear, ready for the next person.
What the invited person does
Section titled “What the invited person does”The person receives an invitation email. Following its link takes them to a Set a new password screen; once they choose a password they are signed in, with the role you granted already in place — no further step is needed from you.
