Resolve held identities

Sometimes the platform cannot be certain which Person a new identity belongs to. When people arrive from an external source, or sign up on their own, an incoming identity may look like it matches an existing Person — or two — but not clearly enough to decide automatically. Rather than guess and risk splitting or crossing someone’s records, the platform holds the decision for a human. The Identity reviews panel is where you settle those held decisions.

The panel has two queues. Choose Refresh queues at any time to reload them; each shows a plain message when nothing is waiting.

These come from an import that matched more than one Person, so binding could not proceed automatically. Each entry shows the External subject, its Provider / issuer, the Candidate person it most likely belongs to, a Reason, and how long it has been held.

  1. Read the entry and decide whether the candidate person is genuinely the same human as the external identity.

  2. If it is, choose Bind candidate. This creates the link between the Person and the external identity, and settles every other candidate waiting on the same subject — the next import then resolves that person automatically.

  3. If the match is wrong, choose Dismiss to clear the review without binding.

Binding confirms “Identity bound; sibling candidates were settled.”

These come from a sign-up that created (minted) a new Person while a likely existing match was found — so you may be looking at the same human twice. Each entry shows the New (minted) person, the Candidate person it may duplicate, the External subject, a Reason, and how long it has been held.

  1. Compare the newly minted person with the candidate and decide whether they are the same human.

  2. If they are, choose Merge into candidate. This moves the new account’s sign-in and contact evidence onto the existing person and archives the duplicate, so the human keeps one continuous record.

  3. If they are genuinely different people, choose Dismiss to leave both records intact.

Merging confirms “Accounts merged; the duplicate person was archived.” A dismissal confirms “Review dismissed.”
